It was subpar
This was my fourth time seeing this play, the three prior were pre-pandemic. Without comparing, the performance I saw was not as good as it was before. Some actors rushed their lines, others were trying too hard to convey a certain emotion in delivering lines, and even the some of the dances had no feeling to them as the ones before. They were experiencing audio issues to the point that I could hear the drummer on the side louder than the orchestra or performers on stage. I also wasn’t a fan of adding the scene where Scar wanted Napa to be his queen. It was so unnecessary and that story line didn’t go anywhere. The production was still stunning (the three star rating), but the overall experience was subpar.
